Thoughts on the Prospeed Sliders

Ignoring the fact I don’t have my driving licence at the moment, so can’t even use my Discovery, I am nonetheless looking to make some changes.

As I know a few members have the Prospeed Rock and Tree Sliders, I just thought I would ask if they are pleased with them and feel they are worth the money?

My off-roading is only modest (although would like to do more), so don’t need them for that reason, but my current Land Rover steps need replacing and I like the look of the Prospeed ones due to the inserts, together with the added protection and the ability to use them as a jacking point (now I have just joined the gang of having more wheels than needed!).

I did see that Iguana had a set replaced, but any other thoughts or views would be much appreciated.

Happy New Year everyone and best wishes for 2020!
 Andy

I have a pair of their first version on the D3 and current version on the D4. Solid and excellent. Both sets have taken some serious beating including having the vehicles drop their full weight on them onto rocks. They have done their job and IMO are worth the money.

The pair on the D3 have been sand blasted and re-powder coated due to rust but the rust was because of the scrapes and abuse over about 6 years of use.

Three friends with D4’s also went straight for the Prospeed - no questions. Two have the step inserts and they are happy with that as well.

(And for disclosure - I am not a fan of everything Prospeed does. Have had their roof rack, ladder, compressor guard and a few rack accessories along with the tree sliders. I don’t like their roof rack or compressor guard and changed these. But I would only use the Prospeed tree/rock sliders Thumbs Up )

I asked them recently regarding the same product and got the following answers.

Quote:

Thank you for your enquiry.

The rock & tree sliders are made out of high carbon content steel, the sills are 3mm thick and thick walled tube for the slider part.

No, the first coat is a high zinc primer and the top coat is black gloss. Our prep and coating process protects the steel very well and guards against any rusting. The only time it becomes a problem is when the coating is damaged due to off roading.

We do sell aluminium skid plates to protect against damage. Please see the link below.

http://prospeed-group.co.uk/product/discov...kid-plate/

No, it is not possible for any water to ingress, the parts are fully welded.

If you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards

The answers helped me so they might help you. Thumbs Up

Thanks very much everyone, that’s really helpful and great to know.

They certainly do seem like a quality item, as confirmed by the email and your experiences. I like the inserts, as with elderly relatives I do need steps that can be used.

Another question, would I be right in thinking the plastic sill trim is removed when fitting these? As my current sill trims have been cut for the existing steps?

I am ready to pull the trigger on these, but have a question. Does ProSpeed sell the mounting bolts / hardware included with the sliders? If so, are they any good? The website makes no mention of it. When I purchased Voyager sliders on my previous D4, they were sold with low quality bolts that were prone to rust. I had to source my own high quality stainless bolts.

I have prospered sills - just the plain non step version. They are good, fit well and stand up too off road impacts. They came with stainless fasteners too attach them

I've been considering a set of these. I read somewhere that someone had had an issue with them filling with water and rotting the sills on the car. Anyone else heard of/experienced this?

That’s good to know about the fastenings.

I did read about the water issue and that was partly why I posted the question, especially given the cost of them.

The email copied into the reply from Kajtzu seems to indicate they are all sealed.

I loved them, i know i had a paint issue with the first set, but this happens at times and Prospeed swapped them with no quibbles

My main reason for getting them to be honest was the look and the protection they gave in supermarket car parks on my then 3 year old D4. Just park, raise the Disco and no more door dent issues Thumbs Up

I currently have a 05 S model, no rock sliders as not so worried about the odd dent, can't also justify the cost on a £3k car

That is good to know their customer service is great and they are willing to sort out problems.

You do make a good point about the value of your D3, at £800+ they must be bordering on 10% of the value of my D4 Big Cry

Oh well, as long as Mrs Fitzy thinks they are only around £200 then all should be well! Whistle
