Ah Haaa! That would explain then when mine loses the Classic FM signal altogether, (which it does with irritating frequency up here in the NE) I find that it has selected 'Galaxy' as the TMC channel. Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills

My experience with TMC.
It works reasonable well in The Netherlands.
It works good in Germany and Austria. In Germany it warned me even for a road blockage on a reasonable small street.
It doesn't work that well in the UK. I got in big traffic jams not mentioned and mayor road works not mentioned. And It wanted to reroute for a Traffic jam that wasn't there and I got warnings of road works that were finished already. So it looks like it isn't updated well enough.
I am not sure about Belgium yet. Looks like it works.
Other countries not enough experience to make a dissision.Roel

TMC experience
Works perfect in Austria, Switzerland and Germany. Best feature is that TMC works with codes so your Navigation unit displays the traffic messages in the language you have set on your unit. In other words I get german explanations for road blocks in Italy when on vacation.

There is a reason for this. TMC in the UK is provided by TrafficMasteritis and the SatNav manufacturer has to pay for a license to put into the unit to receive the signal. No license, no signal, as I understand it. This is not the same in Europe where the service is usually free and there is no license required.
I know this as my Garmin sometimes takes ages to get a signal in the UK, if I fly to Prague and hire a car it has all the Prague ring road traffic before I am off the airport access road. Its the license that causes the issue.
D3 system seems to cope well, probably in part as it uses the car aerial not a dashboard one like my Garmin hand held unit.
Your problem in the UK is probably that as a non-UK spec car, you may not have the license, so you may not have been getting ANY TMC signal at all in the unit.... did it report any events if you looked at all traffic events?

I'll show my ignorance here - after all it's never worried me before!
Is TMC availbale on all models or just HSE? Will my SE have it?
Am I right in thinking that one of my radio channels must be tuned to Classic FM for it to work?2013 D4 HSE Luxe in Indus Silver

Think it comes with satnav option, not sure. SatNav has a separate tuner built in for the TMC channel, so you can listen to something else

Thanks guys,
So I can't understand why I never noticed TMC on my Premium SatNav
May be because there's never traffic jam in my area
