Looks like surface rust in those pictures. Probably can be sandblasted and fixed (protected with various techniques), that’s what people do here.

D3 doesn’t do A2DP (streaming) over BT, just calls. Streaming came in D4 MY12 forward I think.

The USB and iPhone socket in the glove box are probably the way you get your music streamed via the speakers. I haven’t had one but I believe it’ll be connected to aux. Sounds like a LR original aftermarket iPhone kit. You should be a able to get a old style to lightning connector from amazon and after that you can connect a recent iPhone to it. Some people have also gotten some kind of BT streaming module (search the forums) which plugs to the old socket directly.

As you already have working phone it doesn’t make sense to do what I did - got a mObridge M2.Connect.

thanks for the reassurance - I guess any significant issue would have been raised on the MOT too.

Hi 1010, welcome to the forum. Rust on the chassis is normal. They were only ever given a thin coat of black paint. Not undercoated and definitely not galvanised. If you can be bothered, rub it down and put some old engine oil on it.

Just need to keep an eye on rust on the underside of the body proper, particularly to the rear. Keep an eye on your brake hoses as well. How many miles has it done? If over 105K service, was the oil pump changed for the more heavily engineered version? Has the gearbox oil ever been changed? Should be done if over 80K or less if towing heavy trailers or caravans a lot. Gearbox work is expensive. Just some of the key things you should check.

Congratulations on your purchase. Does it really have only 88 k on it? Not that I would doubt the figure outright but it’s a 13 year old vehicle by now and would have averaged less than 7k/year.... Whistle

usb and old style iPhone plug in the glove box is prob the old Audio Connectivity Module, ie iPhone kit. You can get a converter that will change the 30 pin to lightning. The USB is for playing from a flash drive. Thumbs Up

Re rust, mine was well offloaded and abused and was rusty as a rusty thing with a side order of rust but never caused issues. Something else big and expensive will give up before the rust finishes it’s work. Thumbs Up

I would assume the 105k service has been done as a 7 year service, the maintenance schedule says whichever is reached first...?

thanks all - this forum is amazing !

services at the following (these all match the MOT online reports too)
12k
19k
35k
51k (first by prior owner)
58k
79k - had timing belt. AUX bolt - what ever that is.
88k

I spoke to the garage who has done all the services from 51k onwards and they said the prior owner had a works van (he was a family member) who only used the disco at weekends so I am hoping it is a great deal I found.

Will look for the 30 pin adapter - thanks.

I would still consider getting the oil pump exchanged for the later better engineered one and changing your gearbox oil if they haven't been done.

I would change all fluids - not only ATF - based on age. So ATF, front and rear diff, coolant (due at 10 years if it hasn’t been done). PSF if it looks very dark or brownish. Assume that the brake fluid has been changed regularly according to maintenance schedule.

its a 2005 so I won't get into a panic about the oil pump.

79k - had timing belt. AUX BELT (the belt that drives the alternator, steering pump, cooling etc.)

mind you there is also a fuel belt at the rear of the engine

You need a spare wheel protector otherwide you wont have the spare wheel for long!
Same if you have the detachable tow ball.
