Disco3 / LR3 reliability - how does it compare?

In late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research. I'm reporting absolute stats like "times in the shop" that will make the differences between cars much clearer. I’ll also be updating results four times a year, so there will be information on new models sooner.

In general I've been focusing on mass production cars, because it's hard enough with those to get a sufficient sample at this point. But I've had a good number of LR3 owners sign up to participate, so there seems to be a fair amount of interest in reliability information among you.

Essentially, I start collecting data once I have 25 of a model / model year. Currently I have 16 2005s and 14 2006s.

To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results free of charge.

Details: Vehicle reliability research

Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome.

Update: make that 32 2005s and 22 2006s. Since I start collecting data at 25, still need three 2006s. But started with the 2005 a few months back, and will probably have initial results for it in February.

More participants still very much needed.

Hardly a large sample to go on then.

How much are you selling the results for ? I notice your site says that if you enter details you get the results for free... are you selling the information to 3rd parties ?

The samples are small now. But they're getting bigger Smile

I hope to provide some results to other sites in the future and also permit people to join as paying, non-participating members.

To date, no direct revenue from the reliability research, though I've already put thousands of hours into it.

Can't say this research has been very popular with the wife...

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Just started including the 2006. I might have a result for the 2005 this month, depending on how many owners respond. Otherwise, it'll be May for both years.

Can certainly use more participants:

Thanks for that.

Some people have been asking when I'll have a result. Ought to be May for the 2004 and 2005. More recent model years still aren't included in the survey--not enough owners signed up.

For the details, and to help us provide the best possible info on your model year:

We're in the last month of data collection for the May results. Looking iffy for the 2005, and even iffier for the 2004. Participation rates have been unusually low for those LR3 owners who have signed up to participate.

If you've signed up to participate but haven't yet responded to the survey (via a link in the email you received), please do. And if you haven't signed up yet, I hope you'll consider doing so. I'd really like to have these results in May.
