Sand mode and Creek Crossing

Hi there

Just thought I would add in tips and tricks something from my experience with beach driving last weekend.

I attempted a creek crossing as I was exiting Teewah beach near Noosa here in Queensland. I walked the creek first to establish the depth (approx knee height), put the car into offroad height and then proceeded to cross the creek. What I didnt factor in was that the disco was still in sand mode and that there was heightened acceleration, consequence was that we hit the water a bit faster than I had intended and we had some water over the bonnet for a second or two which was pretty exciting, no issue with getting out of the creek but thought I would pass on that if you are going to attempt a creek in sand mode that you should be aware of the impact on your speed.

I found that one out on Tuesday evening. Wheel dipped into a hole in the river bed and I surged on the accelerator because of the jolt. Result? Lots of water on bonnet and lots of smells in car.....

I've done the same crossing 3 times since then in normal mode, low range and had no problems at all. I did a search and found that Slimer recommends this for fording and as he does more than most I figure it has to be good advice. Very Happy

Snakes: maybe but they are generally more frightened of You than You Them.
Crocs: Nah, too far south. Water is too cold.

No issue with the crocs in Noosa now but given all the hype over global warming I'd be surprised if there wasnt a headline in the newspaper soon, 'Crocs to Rule - Noosa under seige'

They've already said that we're going to have box jellyfish on the Gold Coast sometime soon (deadly jellyfish found only in the tropics).

Fear sells papers I suppose.

Scientist from C.S.I.R.O. (Commonwealth, Scientific, and Industrial, Research Organisation for those outside Australia. Govt owned) said planting trees helps elevate the planet's temp. Trees hold the heat in to the Earth's surface and insulate against the escape of heat from the ground.

I dont think any of them know what they are talking about really.

Each report counters the last and opens up even more confusion.
