Test Drive - buzzing after lowering suspension |
|
Hi Guys,
We're in the market for a D3 and I've just been to test drive a 56 Plate very clean example, 81k had all the belts done etc 10 months ago and a full service history.
On lowering the suspension to access height there was a buzzing noise I took to be the compressor, only it seemed to be coming from the front nearside wheelarch area. Raising the suspension to full height got rid of it, but when it went back down to normal height the buzzing continued after it settled for a full 20-25 seconds.
The front also seemed to come up a lot slower than the rear.
The car is being offered with a full warranty for 6 months and the dealer has said that any problems, including whatever the buzzing may be, will be covered.
What is it likely to be and is it going to be a massive headache to fix?
Because otherwise it's an absolute beauty and the best example I've seen in the month I've been looking.
Thanks in advance.

Front rising last is normal in my experience at least.
As for buzzing, it does sound like the compressor, but if it is definitely the front, then not sure! Mark.

sounds like the compressor, it will make a buzzing sound normally, depends on the severity of it compared to normal, which I appreciate is impossible to judge it you don't know what it normally sounds like
the compressor is under the right rear passengers door. have a listen and see if that's where its coming from Duncan

Should it be continuing for such a length of time though? I'd say it was up to about 25 seconds.

Quote: full warranty for 6 months
The question is who is underwriting the warranty, and what is a "full warranty"?
I would want to go through the terms with a fine toothed comb - does it cover betterment, LR OEM parts, can you choose your own repairer etc.. Search the forum there is a lot here on warranty issues.
From whom are you buying the car, are they well known, unknown or infamous?
Good luck.

Very good question NJSS,
The dealer is a local Jaguar main dealership.
The warranty is provided by AutoProtect and covers all eletrical and mechanical parts (excluding those specified which is a list about 2 pages long he's emailing over) I've made sure it includes suspension and things like the EPB, excess is £50 per claim and the betterment clause has been removed (until 105,000 miles) does include J/LR Dealer rates though.
Which I thought seemed like quite a good deal.
Just that darn buzzing is stopping me from pulling the trigger at the moment. The dealer seems desperate to close the deal too.

More research needed, it looks as if Autoprotect have a fairly poor record:-

By way of comparison the same search against Warranty Direct revealed disputes, some are inevitable, but no where as many:-

If I was you I would have the car inspected by an expert, who can also advise on warranties.

Thanks NJSS,
The market seems like there's plenty of options out there at the moment and buying one with something that's niggling me so much already seems like a bad idea, I'll keep looking I think, hopefully something will come up on this forum that might be a better bet.
we'll see.
