Yep, Thumbs Up DG
I wouldn't have done it without your instructions, far too cack-handed to do it without help.
This topic might need 'bumping up' every now and then. It's a very simple job (once you know how Wink )

What we need is a D3 Action Year Book- reminders of seasonal tasks - like SWMBO's gardening almanack (a never-ending list of things to be done (by me) for every week of the year), and perhaps a reminder list of the regular weekly tasks (rebuild EPB, make dealer warranty appointment, buy accessories....)

Cheers Dunc Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Mine was quiet today (was a heady 2 degrees) so it seems to be cold weather related.

Will check over the weekend if I can find a spanner.

probaly due to all the mud/moisture frozen in the foam and prevent the compressor moving...

the warmer whether must have made it a bit more pliable Wink

What I am thinking.

Will try and clean it out over the weekend or maybe just say to my dealer the compressor is noisy and they will do it Whistle

Still funny that the last D3 never did it and that one went off road more than this one has so far and suffered some very cold weather too.

Amazingly the compressor on my D3 has started to make a loud humm since monday, so its either one of two things, 1> the cold snap we are experiencing this week or 2> the D3's way of tellin me to clean out the compressor box and relieve of all the mud.
Good thread though i must say, mite carry out inspection over the week-end..

Right,
The local Land Rover specialist did the repairs to the compressor wiring after the previously mentioned 'good samaritan' jacked the rear up and knackered the plastic and alloy covers.

SWMBO has said that the compressor runs on a bit and she also says that she can feel a vibration when driving coming from the rear of the car.

Does this sound connected. I would have thought that if the specialist was replacing both covers and repairing the wiring that had been caught, they would have cleaned the area out enough for the compressor to be quiet again?

Any other ideas why the compressor would run on for a while? I am going to recheck the cleanliness under the covers and I am aware that during the cold weather to expect some noise. A friend has a 07 D3 and has said theirs isnt making a noise at all.....so any other ideas?

Cheers

Kev

I can't recall the exact time period TBH but it's quite normal for the compressor to run on for a minute or so while it goes through it's cycle Wink The noise should be no more than the sound of a very distant buzz ...if it's much louder then it's likely to be in contact with something inside the acoustic box perhaps

That was what I was expecting. It is certainly louder than a hum..More like a quietish coffee grinder...LOL

Will check the mounts as well while I am down there......

Right, checked the cleanliness and was surprised to find it extremely clean. Not a sight of mud in or around the compressor area. The local garage must have done a decent job of sorting the new covers and wiring.
Checked the two mounts. There is a centre one with a allen headed screw that hold the main part of the motor and a small rubber bung that sits on a std on the alloy mounting plate.
Checked both of these incase they have perished but all looked fine. Even moved the centre one to ensure it didnt knock against the plate when running.

I experiecned the vibration myself last night whilst driving and it does seem to be a vibration coming from the compressor area. The problem is, its not at first start. The time I experienced it, we had been driving for a few minutes when the compressor kicked in causing said vibration.
I checked by lower the car with the centre console switch. Whilst dumping the air, it stopped vibrating. When lifting the car back up to ride height, the compressor made the vibrating noise.

So somewhere along the lines there is a vibration from this area..... Evil or Very Mad

Do you know reading this post, I have just realised I actually haven't heard my compressor for weeks and I used to hear it all the time.

Wonder why it has gone silent as it must be working, I always select access height for the dogs to jump in and it raises up to standard or off road without hassle.

Has that pre-owned been off-road?

This is a great way of finding out if a pre-owned Disco has been off-road, providing it hasn't been cleaned out, and if it has, well that means it's been looked after.
