Having had a 'noise' from my compressor for a while, and after reading these posts, I decided to see if mine was also clogged with silt etc Confused

After removing the bottom cover (thanks to DG for the info making this easy) I was confronted with the obvious source of the noisey compressor, the alloy support bracket is fractured (see picture) I have no idea of how this happened, certainly not by me off roading, maybe the previous owner (who said it had never ventured on to grass let alone anything worse) was the culprit Rolling Eyes

The question is:-

How do you remove the whole compressor so gain access to the bracket, the bottom bolt(s) are easily accessable, but the top ones seem impossible to get to, let alone undo !!

Will it be repairable (TIG welding Question)

Also of some concern, and worth bring to the attention of the other forum members is the level of corrosion on the bracket itself, I can only assume this is from road salt Shocked considering the location of the bracket you would have thought LR would have considered this during the design and used corrosion resistant components - obviously NOT Neutral

Will I be able to buy/aquire only the bracket, and swop over my existing unit, or will it be a lorry load of gold delivered to my LR stealer (oops Dealer) to pay for a complete new compressor (and bracket) Big Cry

Any help as always Big Cry greatfully appreciated Bow down

Bracket

TFC changed the bracket on mine last week,I think it took about 1 hour.
The bracket is available seperately and costs about £70.00
Normally caused by a jack being positioned under the compressor cover when changing a wheel I am reliably informed

Re: Bracket

Unnecessary quote removed

Cheers Mark for the info - at least I now know I can get a replacement bracket and haven't got to cough up for a whole new unit (SWMBO would have a tizzy fit at spending that amount of £'s juust before crimbo Confused )

Does anyone now how to get the compressor unbolted- I still can't see how you get to the top bolt(s) or even get the top plastic cover off/out ??

Maybe I'm being stoopid Whistle Whistle

Anyone got any nice pics of removal 'by numbers' Rolling Eyes Thumbs Up

Took the plastic cover off mine today. The bolt on the underside sheared as soon as I showed it the socket set, possibly due to some chemical reaction between the bolt and the aluminium bracket? The other 2 were seized but the usual spraying with WD40 did the trick eventually. Once I had the plastic cover off I was pleasantly surprised, no mud or anything inside (perhaps the one previous lady owner story the dealer told me was true?), but the bracket was badly oxidised. I laced the whole lot with WD40 and then greased the two remaining bolts before reassembling it. Did I read somewhere there is a filter that needs cleaning associated with the compressor? I couldn't see anything obvious.

there is an air compressor filter but it is situated inside the boot on the LHS - So unless you boot is constantly full of dust I wouldnt worry too much about it.

And there is a dryer full of desicant attached to the compressor.

i had compressor replaced this week due to a ride height fault, which is still apparent, at 1st start up.
when the dealer took the comp' out it was covered in Censored , but still worked, the bracket mounts sheared too, that cost £50 on top of the compressor..... i'm gonna keep spraying some wax oil on the mounts every 6 months, as 50 sheets for a bit of alloy that rots with a bit of salt is extorsion Evil or Very Mad

Thanks to DG Took the plastic cover today without any problem. No mud or anything inside. How to resolve compressor noise? It will be noisy after car start up and then after few minutes no noise

The top bolt is a bit of a nightmare to get to but with flexi extensions on the socket set it can be done.

Oh and the bracket welds quite easily if you have access to a Tig welder.
