Purple poly bushes
Hi all
MOT due today and front and back brake bushes are goosed
Been told around £996 total for front and back purple bushes and MOT total inc VAT
Is this the going rate?
Thought they were about £12 each 😱

Roughly £740 to buy the complete set of bushes (that's everything on the Powerflex website for suspension rather than brakes), add on fitting and an MOT and the price sounds about right.... whether you actually need all of them is a different question ...I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

To be fair front has been clunking for ages and definitely an issue
Be warned if fitting polybushes, they can cause the arms around the area of the bush to crack. The safest is to replace the arms with Meyle HD or similar. The chances of taking the original arms off without having to cut something is going to very remote.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

Thanks they said they’re taking the arms off and cutting bolts Andy way and realigning the tracking
So the poly bushes are supposed to not need replacing again. Apparently...
But they increase risk of cracking arms?
Or am I not understanding?
Thanks

Only replace arms that need doing.
There are many posts on here of people fitting polys only for the arm to fail/have susp issues/noises they cannot get rid of etc.

You are correct in your understanding. You are putting polybushes into arms that are quite old and potentially rusty. Polybushes aren't as compliant as OEM bushes and they transfer more stress to the structure of the arms.
While the bushes may outlast the car, poly normally do, the arms will fail as shown in the pictures.
As a matter of interest, how old is the vehicle and what mileage is on the car? If these are your first new arms, then I'd suggest replacing with manufacturers specification arms as they will last at least as long.
Nearly all the independant specialists will fit Meyle HD arms from Advanced Factors.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

Can the bushes be reused on new arms please?
I’m thinking I can’t afford new arms now. And the mechanic only uses the purple ones. So I could just get mobility back for now.
Or would I be best giving them a call and asking for the recommended ones last minute? I will call first thing if it’s best bet!

Poly bushes will ruin the ride you see a lot of arms for sale where people have fitted poly bushes and then fitted new arms to get the ride comfort back.
I would invest in a set of HD Meyle arms from advanced factors its the best choice.

I think you really need to establish which arms and which bushes need replacing... rather than just “doing them all” you’d probably end up saving money by changing the whole arms on the fronts (the Meyle ones are excellent) and rears if they need doing as the labour costs would also be reduced (hopefully a straight swap).
I fitted polybushes to my LHD 08 plate D3 (on springs) and although the ride was VERY firm at first it soon softened to a much more comfortable ride as the bushes bedded in, but it was very low mileage (18k) and very easy to do.
It’s your call but there’s a lot of opinion and experience on here saying to fit the new arms...I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

You're wasting your money with the poly bushes and the plan you have outlined even if it seems cheaper at the outset. OEM arms are not that expensive and will last.PAGODA

Ny D3 has Poly bushes fitted - I wouldn't recommend them TBH the supple ride of the D3 is replaced by crashing, over any small potholes compared to my D4Must stop buying shiny toys....

Hi all
It was a case of needing my car doing for it’s MOT there and then due to my error
It was 6 total bushes that were replaced, tracking and MOT for £996... does that sound about right?
The drive seems nice in my opinion more stable. But there were a few ruined bushes previously so I’ve not known anything better there.
I see someone’s posted the red bush has caused cracking, but these are purple. Are they still going to damage the arms?
Are they bad but mechanics like them as it brings us back for arms / money? Or are purple ones not as dodgy as red?
Second time I’ve been cleaned out completely and left struggling to even eat the next few days so ill be really unhappy if the decisions cause more damage than good etc.
Hell of a bill for 6 pieces of rubber lol

It wont be tracking, it should be 4 wheel alignment, that alone is north of 100 quid.
Mot 54 quid.
So you are looking at 750 ish for the bushes, as they can be a total to get the arms off in one piece as you rebushed them, silly as its sound new arms might have been cheaper labour wise.
On the plus side it now has an mot and what is done is done, so no need to fret over it.
I changed my fornt arms using genuine LR, luckily for me all the bolts came undone, so it was two new arms at 100 each, two bolts sets at approx 50 the lot and an alignment, rough total of 380 all in, so in your case at half the bill is labour.
