Fixed towbar fitting....

Hi,

I have been offered a secondhand LR fixed towbar, but it has no fixing bolts with it, the seller says you just need some ordinary bolts.
Despite searching I can't work out whether the bush inside the chassis rail is something that you need or something that you remove and discard to fit the support arms? (fitting to a 12MY by the way if that makes a difference)
Many thanks, David.

when i bought a new fixed bar i didn't need the chassis inserts or bolts that came in the fitting kit as mine already had them installed (2007) Thumbs Up

What i could work out is the insert in the chassis is threaded at both ends with a bolt each side, you undo one bolt on each chassis rail to mount the fix bar stabilizer bars... undo both and you lose the insert in the chassis Shocked

I think pre 2008 the inserts are already fitted, post 2008 are not. Question is, do you need them? I thought the fitting process involved removing them but I'm probably mistaken. Could I use a long nut and bolt with no insert?

you can use a long bolt, but you need to cut a piece of tube (I used a bit of galv conduit) and feed this in through the keyhole slot, such that your long bolt passes through the tube. This is so that when you tighten the nut & bolt, you dont crush the chassis rail.
