what protection?
Hi all - have a new to me Discovery 4 2012, which we plan to do family adventuring in Europe - off road but not to ridiculous extremes.....
In your experiences, what protection is fine from the factory and what is advisable to put on? Am thinking rock sliders for protection from the boulders in Devon lanes, maybe tree sliders for the same, possibly front sump guard.
Debating winch; would probably rarely use it, but as we'd often be on our own it may come in handy and just once makes it useful. Having stretched to buy the car want to keep costs reasonable though.
All experiences welcomed.

Given your intentions a sump guard and tree sliders should do it.
Always best to travel with another vehicle when off-road.

If you're after a winch Russell, I know someone with the full LR setup, fitted but hardly used. They may be interested in selling. Will be cheaper than the £3500 LR price tag!Bodsys Brake Bible

motolite, it's cos of being in Australia that we're doing this. Before we were married, my now wife and I drove round Oz - Brisbane-Adelaide-Alice-Ulhuru-Perth-Canning Stock Route-Darwin-Cairns......
So want to do some fun stuff with the kids too, but it won't be as extreme as some of that. Not yet, anyway 8)

in my experience the tarmaced Devon lanes have hidden boulders in the verges, and I've done some nasty damage to my previous S-Max (and others) in squeezing across - so something else to scrape rather than bodywork might be nice.....

The boulders in the verges are there to stop cars driving and parking on the verges and turning grass and wild flowers into mud :/
