Terrain Response On Road Use |
|
Has anybody being following the post on Freel2 regarding the on road use of the Terrain Response settings? eg Using the sand setting significant increases throttle response and is great for standing starts at traffic lights or for extra urge when overtaking. Alternatively, using the grass/gravel/snow setting is deemed to increase fuel consumption.
I would be interested in hearing comments from Disco 3 TDV6 owners to see if the programmes have the same effect.

Sand setting is well documented on here for increased power response. Have never heard the g/g/s one tbh....
Sand mode is good, but i tend not to use it on road, as i am concerned about the length of time that the car is in sand mode and any possibility of early life failure due to abuse -(Im keeping mine for four years...)
I also think (but i stand to be corrected) that the length of time off road settings are used/speeds etc is captured by the TR module for use by LR in diagnostics i.e. this fault was caused by abnormal use Mr Rogue, as we were able to see you changed TR into sand at 65mph, that'll be £'000's please

Yeah i seem to remember reading that too DG
But my real concern is that one day LR will use this data thats stored to present reasons why they can't fix the EPB/compressor/rear diff etc etc under warranty because "sand TR setting" was used on the M40 just outside of Beaconsfield to out accelerate a white Mercedes Sprinter van, with red lettering on the side...

The ultimate solution, of course, is described below 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Gentlemen, the following was posted on Freel2 by insider:
The Grass / gravel Snow mode , has the following : - accelerator pedal map shallower at low pedal travel to reduce wheel spin ; DSC and traction control allow smaller levels of wheeelspin and yaw before engine and brake intervention ; chnages up earlier and down later to restrict wheel spin; electronic coupling pre-charge decreases more quickly when on the move;torque distribution biased towards front axle ( when ther is not wheel spin ) ; yaw control set to prtect against lift off over steer . A combination of this and yuor driving style might explain the greater economy but conditions would need to be identical to compare . No harm is done driving in any mode for long periods or even forever !

I'm sure 'Insider' will indemnify everyone's warranty then 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

You wont get any extra power in Sand mode... you get is a sharper / faster rise in revs / throttle response and holding of revs between gear changes. Gives you the impression of being quicker off the lights... your 0-60 should be the same.

Faster rise in revs = quicker 0-60
It is quicker. In a way, it's a like a selectable tune for the engine - although there is more involved as it alters traction and diff settings too Disco 5 HSE Lux

All it does is raise the revs faster and hold them between gear changes... you won't get any more BHP.

If the revs rise quicker, the wheels turn quicker faster. Car goes quicker.
I suspect if you measured the power on a rolling road, sand mode would show a higher BHP Disco 5 HSE Lux
