Somethings burning at the front end.... |
|
So I took my SE on the beach in Tiree for a spin, got bogged in, dropped in to the low gears and had no problem getting free. BUT there is now a constant burning smell from the front of the car which I cant trace. It smells like brake dust but the discs aren't binding. It isn't the clutch either as changes are still smooth.
Ideas folks?

here it is
TSB 308-001
A customer may report a concern of one or more of the following symptoms:
This bulletin has been re-issued to include a closing VIN.
Strong odors from under vehicle when, or after, a slow speed maneuver (e.g. difficult parking maneuver), especially when on gradients.
Clutch slip.
The clutch pedal has stuck in the downward position or not releasing fully.
Difficulty in engaging gears.
Cause: The clutch drive plate lining material is not tolerant to high heat inputs caused by slipping, becomes soft and is then damaged beyond recovery even when it has cooled.
Action: Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin to renew the clutch assembly.
Manual transmission vehicles only VIN-range: 5A300394-7A422271 G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

So... my dealership admits to that it is a clutch issue but says it doesn't need replaced! The car smells both inside and out like you wouldn't belive. I placed a call to my leasing company who got this sorted within 24 hours. Why do LR dealers make it so difficult given the money that these vehicles cost???

The lease company told LR that as far as they were concerned it was an HSE issue i.e. fumes in the car. You'd really think that LR would understand that a) their cars are not cheap and b) strive for better customer service. Obviously I am just soooo out there with these thoughts versus LR HQ folks!
The dealer has the last laugh though.... they send someone to pick up the car and arrange a curtesy car NOT FOR ME but for the monkey picking up my Disco as he has left his BMW 3 series outside my house!!!!! Is this madness or what in terms of customer care???
Will the new owners of LR make some sensible changes I wonder?

I can't see it just being a HSE issue TBH ...ISTR that there was a TSB about fumes ingress via the HEVAC system last year ...this should have been picked up if your vehicle had the software 'enhancement' around about the same time ...worth checking 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

DG, I'm guessing he means a Health & Safety issue (possibly HSE - Health & Safety Executive in this case). IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!

Ah ...now...if you read it that way 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

UPDATE - it transpires that the clutches fitted to the first batch of Disco 3's have now been deemed as being too soft by LR, who as usual are too tight to do a recall and would rather do the job under waranty. Have also just found out that LR are now demanding that the clutch bolts are also replaced when the clutch is done.... except that the said bolts are on back order until the end of this month (August) at the earliest... which means my SE is in the garage minus stripped out clutch and not going anywhere for 3 weeks!!!!
Customer service or a take?
