Boot door hinge compression arm thing come out of hole?

Hi all hope your all ready for the winter fun.

On my boot door right side hinge, the compressor arm bit that extends etc has come out the hole in the rear boot door. So now it won't stay up on it's own.

Any ideas what I need to fix this please?

I had the same thing happen to me but got lucky. bought a new bolt from TLO @ Yeovil Lr and spannered it back in, never had any problems after 5 years of ownership.

I supposed it depends on how knarled the thread gets. my local body shop said he'd have to cut the captive bolt out to weld a new one in but that's last resort. Thumbs Up

Thanks, any pointers or tips? Where to locate a new bolt? Instructions to fit?

Thanks

You can ... get the pivot bolt from LR and also a flanged nut (we tack welded a repair washer to it) to suit if the captive one has broken off, then.. remove the rear light cluster and there is a small hole, by enlarging this hole and passing up a piece of welding rod attached to the flanged nut and using a repair washer on the outside with the bolt quite easily carry out a repair without cutting, welding, painting etc, reckon it took us 30mins and I had dreaded the job for 3 years! I don't have pics but can possibly obtain them if it helps Thumbs Up

Just looked and theres still something inside the pillar with a thread to screw into, however the strut on the door itself doesn't have anything at the end of it. Not sure if that helps?

So it looks like this now the end of it.

Thanks but I've already got that, its the screw at the end isn't it that goes into the pillar that's missing?

Looks like you have lost the ball that screws into the D pillar. I'm not sure you can buy them separately. If not you might need a new strut.

If your lucky, you might be able to get the new ball to pick up the threads you can see, and you will be able to tighten it. If its come adrift inside the pillar, there are some alternative measure elsewhere in this thread. I think access is now possible behind the D pillar interior trim?

I'm not sure so you better start reading!

Depends how much thread you have left. Put a bolt in and see if it holds, I think the bolt is a couple of quid.

Post a picture up of what you have been left with. Thumbs Up

If you have some thread left bolt it up very gently with some thread lock on there or better still some Loktite bearing fit liquid and the keep the cups on the end of the gas struts well lubricated.

Would be tempted to try a new bolt and a bit of chemical metal. Once cured it shouldn't budge.
