MOT fail advice needed
Hi all.
My 2005 HS failed it's MOT today
It's rusted out at the back of the drivers side sill, on the back side just in front of the rear wheel, so on the inside when looking fom underneath. It look pretty scabby for about a 12" length, the other side doesn't seem as bad but the suspension compressor blocks the view.
Are there any pre-formed repair sections available for this ? the sill outers are in good shape with not rust or rot, just the back side rear.
I know the garage that does the MOT really well, he said he'll do it for me, but pre-formed repair sections are better if available.
Otherwise I guess it's just a case of cutting out all the bad and fabricating up some new bits ?
Thanks

"Rimmer" seem to have inner sills listed for £200 each.
Try Land Ranger Services ... they were really helpful when I needed D1 panels, finding alternative ones with less need for cutting back the floorpan..

I found out how bad these can get last winter when I did some restoration work on my own. As you can see in the pics, Land Rover very kindly undersealed right up to the sills and then stopped... Totally useless arent they..
Glad I got on top of mine before it got too bad

The issue with the inner sills is they are 3 pieces stiched together. The floor, the inner shell and the outer shell, each with drainage. This then repeats itself in different ways along the vehicle. I can't see how something like that could be sold as an item.

I think so mate, unfortunately. Just make sure theres plenty of drainage and get some cavity seal in there when done. Good luck!

Cheers, although I hope I never have to do it again. Its been nearly a year now so time to scrape a little bit back in the worst areas to see if its doing ok.
I have since added rinsing out the sills to the maintenance schedule; removing some of the rubber grommets behind the plastic sill trim and shoving the hose pipe in for a few minutes. Note: not all grommets lead to the same cavity. Its nice to see bits of dirt coming out of the drain holes.
I actually removed and threw away the plastic sill trim and although havent done it yet, plan on giving them the treatment finished with a raptor lining. With the doors closed, 90% of the sill is hidden by door trim so IMO, unless you have it in you to remove them as per, best to keep them off. The only downside to this, is a bit more muck gets between the doors and the sills as the bottom door trim has nothing to close against, but at least it (the muck) is not hidden!

Hi gstuart
I think these are the complete outer sill panels, that part number has been replaced by LR061716
