Just wondering if D4 door mirrors will fit (and work) okay on a D3.
My hinge on the folding part has broken, so I need a replacement.
There are D4 ones for sale on the forum.
Would it be a straight forward mechanical swap?
No powerfold, indicator not necessary etc.

They physically fit but the connectors and pin positions are different so need to be adjusted to work.
Either change the looms over or swap the door looms
Gets more complex with the latest version with indicators but all can be made to work. Must stop buying shiny toys....

It's the physical bit I'm most concerned about.
I don't think the D4 looms etc are available, with the mirrors.
So straight mechanical swap. Maybe a fudge about with connectors, but nothing too bad.

Disco 3 and 4 mirrors all mount in the same way so no issues in physically fitting. The wiring will depend a lot on what you have as options. If you have powerfold you need to modify the D4 mirror loom within the mirror housing which isn’t difficult. You also need to de-pin the D4 connector and fit the D3 connector or vice versa. If you look at some of the recent D4.5 mirror threads on D3 you will see the same problems and mods required. The 4.5 mirrors are the same electrically as the 4 with an additional wire for the indicator. 012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

I'm fitting the mirrors now.
As said, mechanically the same, except for a seized bolt, but I have a suitable replacement.
The plugs are different as said, but same wires. Only difference is on D3 there are two black wires. On D4 there are two black wires but one has a white stripe on it and the other has a blue stripe.
I need to know which of these blacks are which.

What pin positions are the ones you refer to?

As far as I know they are D4 mirrors.
Manual fold and no indicators.
The link seems to be for 4.5 mirrors.
I have worked my wires out, a bit, anyway. The new and old colours match up, except for the two blacks, but they are the heater element, so no issues.
Red, green and blue for motors to move mirror.
I temp wired, by cutting the old plug off, bearing the wire ends, and putting them in the new plug pinholes. But no success. Maybe just a poor connection or totally wrong.

I can confirm the mirrors are D4, off a 2011 Commercial.
Manual fold but heated.

Ok, because I don’t have the colour codes for the wires in the mirrors (not shown on LR diagrams) I’ll work off pin positions and colours of the door loom.
You should have 2 door connectors, one should have 5 wires and one with 4.
Pin 1 on C0319 is B/P and this connects to pin 1 on the 4 mirror
Pin 2 on C0329 is S/W (or light green) to pin 2 on the 4 mirror
Pin 3 on C0329 is B/U to pin 3 on the 4 mirror
Pin 4 on C0329 is N/P to pin 5 on the 4 mirror
Pin 5 on C0329 is B (0.75mm (large)) to pin 6 on the 4 mirror
Pin 1 on C1563 is R to pin 7 on the 4 mirror
Pin 2 on C1563 is G to pin 8 on the 4 mirror
Pin 3 on C1563 is B (0.5mm (small)) to pin 10 on the 4 mirror
Pin 4 on C1563 is Y to pin 9 on the 4 mirror

I only have 5 wires into each mirror.
Are the wire colours you show are they at the door loom plug or the mirror plug?

D3 door loom to D4 mirror with pin position and wire colours.

If you do only have 5 wires in your door loom, they must be
Black/purple - X Motor
Silver/White (or light green) - X/Y Motor
Black/Blue - Y Motor
Brown/Purple - Heater pos
Black (0.75mm) - Common ground

Just been to the garage to get the driver side 'new' mirror.
The wires are:
Red with White
Green
Blue
Black with Grey
Black with Blue
In that order, well either left to right or right to left depending on what way you look at the plug.
The old one was:
Red
Green
Blue
Black }
Black } Both look like they go to heater element.
I temp wired like for like, but it's not working. I have put the door card back on for now, as I can manually adjust the glass. I need to drive it tomorrow. I have just fitted the one new mirror so far. Will do the wiring and fit the other one when I get a chance later this week or weekend.
