If I have time over Christmas, I might look into knocking up a box that sends the message the Webasto needs in order to activate the parking heater.

Looking at doing this project over xmas. I found the oval timer on the bay of E for 50 quid delivered Thumbs Up . Then a mate found this for me. Just getting a price now. It says $200 delivered but should be cheaper from a UKsite. So do you think it's worth the money?

But the slight snag i have is when i activate access mode on (my iphone being on whitelist) it will ring and hangup as usual but its not switching the heater on.
If i ring from another phone it will not ring at all .

But if i turn access mode off, ie so any number can ring the gsm control it will turn the heater on perfectly.

exactly the same happened to mine first time I used the "whitelist" numbers. The solution I found was to replace the simcard in the gsm unit. I was using a Vodafone sim but I could only start the FBH with access mode off. Replaced Vodafone sim card with an orange simcard and access mode works fine. Any phone ringing it just gets hung up, whitelist phones receive a beep then hang up and FBH starts up.

Only slight trouble now is my mobile is the only one that won't activate it, any other number I program (partners mobile, work mobile etc) all work fine!

Watch out if using the gsm unit with access mode off (unprotected). I went out to my car one day and found the FBH going and also my battery was dieing at strange times. Turned out vodafone kept ringing to welcome me to the network or some such reason and kept starting the FBH when i wasnt around!!

Thumbs Up

So Devon 4x4 are doing the kit for £169. Not GSM, but is it worth it, and is it a easy mod.

**not to worry, the lengend TFC is doing his majic**

well managed to complete part of it....soldering was a pain but managed it in the end (just hope I didn't melt anything else). My gsm box came with two power outputs, the first four I've connect as per Wiggs diagram, found out the second output can be configured to send power to another device (interesting). Anyway only thing left now is to program the gsm box (mine sends sms). Providing I don't have my stupid hat on (took me a while to figure out how to get this mod to work - after a week of no sleep and dreams of a warm car finally figured it out). If anyone wants to do this mod its actually quite easy thanks to 'Wiggs'.

Have just got all the bits in the post for this myself - will be trying to put it all together sometime soon (thanks Wiggs) - no doubt just in time to not have to use it for another 9 months!

I have assembled a pile of parts ready to do this fantastic mod and have a question. I would like to fit the webasto control inside the enclosure - i have this http://www.quantekshop.co.uk/gsmremotecontrol.html version and there appears to be space on the right hand side (assuming the cable holes are the front) just behind the aerial. It would require taking the back cover off of the webasto controller and shortening the 4 pins by about 5mm. Anyone done this or see any problems before I start hacking about? I intend to leave the wires long enough so that the lid can be removed without disconnecting the webasto controller from the GSM unit.

do i need to see the webasto screen or access the buttons for this to work as GSM controlled only?

thanks
dave

Just bought a nice neat fitting box for the GSM unit.
But ..... didn't think about the timer.
Does that need to go in a box if fitting under the bonnet [in spare battery box]?
If I could think of anything intelligent, poignant or witty, I'd put it here !!!

I've had the bits and pieces lying around for a while now, so decided to give it a go

Didn't take long, and have now got all the bits fitted

Tested by pressing the manual buton on the timer, and the FBH fires up fine, not had chance to configure the GSM unit as yet, will try one night after work

MY only worry was that the FBH seems to have different (speed?) settings. When I pressed the flame button it turned on, and then if I pressed it again, it went up a level, and then again, until pressing it for a forth time, it would turn off

Is this operating correctly?

If it is, at what speed will it operate when switched by the GSM unit? The lowest/first setting I assume?

Is everyone elses like this?

Thanks

Ade
