Easier D3 GVIF / reversing camera fit
Firstly thanks for an excellent and detailed write up for fitting the GVIF unit and reversing camera http://media.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/u...n_v1_2.pdf I was following this but decided I only wanted the reversing camera for now so I chose an easier installation :-
The camera was the one mounted above the number plate like the majority of owners have used with the wiring running down the nearside to the Satnav unit. The short Camera wires leave the plugs by the rear screen connection which I connected to a new 10M power cable plus a 10M video cable so that I did not need to splice any wires (plug & play)
I did not need to remove the centre console because I unscrewed and removed the passenger seat base which gave me free access to the area where the GVIF will live. There are some voids where the GVIF would live but there was no way of securing it to avoid getting caught up with the seat mechanism so I made up a U bracket that would clamp it to the seat frame away from any rear passenger feet movements.
If its just the camera you want there are only three wires you need :-
Black earth can be connected to the seat frame (the bit that does not slide)
Red power & gray reversing light connections are brought forward using a twin flex to the fuse board where piggy back fuses can be used to connect them into an ignition live & reversing light fuses.
Repeating some of others advice:-
• Be patient getting the plugs through the tailgate grommet – they will fit
• Buy new 10M cables to avoid spliced wires.
• Check which end of the cable you are feeding through & check again before it’s too late.
• Buy more panel clips as you will need them.
• Take time to tidy up the cable runs as loose wires will rattle.
