Sat nav brightness

Having done a couple of relatively long night time drives I am still bewildered as to why there is no night mode for the sat nav screen. If you turn the dial to dim the lights it hels but then thw dials are too dark. Has anyone found a decent remedy for this? I was thinking of trying to make a little frame with a covering of some kind to just put over it at night when using it just not sure what to use. Not worried about being able to touch as usually set for route so no need to touch at least when moving anyway. My first thought was possibly a piece of a pair of tights as would dim but not blank out so still visible.

Have you turned it down using the setting button on the screen?
or turn it off using the right hand button in front of the screen?

I know you can adjust the brightness but then is too dark during the day plus did need it on to find our way to where we were going.

I've changed the colour scheme on mine and have it turned down to the minimum all the time and find it ok during the day.

I don't want the screen off. I was just asking if anyone has any suggestions on what to use as a night time screen or filter to dim it so useable but not distracting without having to drop brightness of either screen or all dial illumination.
