disco 3 glow plugs why so hard to remove

We’ve got a little Renault Megane 1.5dci in the family that has become a pig to start since the cold hit. I set upon it with a 10mm socket today and all 4 glow plugs came out with no trouble at all.
Why are the disco ones such a nightmare to remove? What makes them so different to the Megane. Goes without saying I set myself up for the worst and made sure I was armed with some penetrating oil and a nice hot engine. Maybe I was lucky? Or maybe you only hear of the bad ones when it comes to the discovery.

Cus they are 10mm and short and fat.
