C1A53 epb

I know it's been done to death but I'm having trouble picking through the sheer volume of it all

I bought the D3 a week ago now, it had a known suspension fault and the discs all needed replacing. Between getting it home and changing the discs, pads and shoes, the battery died and epb fault appeared (flashing red and constant amber on dash) it worked to my advantage in a way because I didn't need to put it in service mode to do the rear brakes.

All done ok (I'm a qualified mechanic, out of the trade now and epb weren't about when I was), all adjusted as per bodsy's bible and then did the replacement compressor. In the mean time, I charged the battery for 24hrs and cleared the fault codes.

The epb problem has stayed with C1A53 - sadly my delphi reader doesn't give the following two digits. The module sounds like it winds back and forth several times before giving up but that's as much as I've looked into it so far. I cleared the fault code but it came back on when I pulled the switch but I haven't tried bedding the shoes in yet and the car hasn't moved an inch.

Any suggestions where to start looking?

Seems to me it's not latching - there's no screech and it's not jamming on, does that help at all?

still no further on with this - I've re-adjusted both sides this afternoon

It occurred to me that one cable might have snapped? I've just stopped for a breather but think the n/s might have come on but not the offside. I think once I've eaten I'll take the offside drum back off and try pulling the end - if the cable pulls through then obviously it needs a cable Sad

does that sound feasible?

gave up for today, I couldn't bring myself to go back to it. I have made a minor breakthrough though, fingers crossed.

Sounds a lot like this except no "twang";

So, reading the comments, I might be on to something when I mentioned broken/disconnected cable

Found it - yet to put everything back together but I'm fairly confident this will fix it, for now at least

The two should be permanently joined, they are again now Smile managed to knacker the n/s cable though so I won't be able to try it until Monday
