Glow plugs - Maintenance & preventing issues

Quote:
Glow plugs don’t have a specific replacement interval and they are generally only replaced when they fail.

As a preventive measure, it is considered good practice to have them periodically removed and have the threaded section of the glow plug and the cylinder head cleaned and lubricated with a special ceramic grease that is suitable for very high temperature use.

Thank-you Ian. This was news to me.

Next question; what does "periodically" mean ?

On one hand, if you broke a working GP trying to remove it you would have 2 reasons to kick yourself.

I guess you could move them a quarter of a turn (with torque wrench) every 2 years ? 3 years ?

Then 3 years later move it back the other way a quarter of a turn Laughing (making notes in the service history which direction)

Surely, if you were to remove them to apply anti-seize compound, you would be as well replacing them, no?

+1 Micky

Gone to the pain of getting them out you probably don't know when last replaced. So some nice new ones lubricated to easy removal if you need to. Thumbs Up
