Top Hose came off radiator.

Hi. I need some advice please. I pulled into my local petrol station to fill up but when I stopped I noticed steam coming from under the bonnet. When I lifted it up I could see that the top hose had come off the radiator.

Luckily I hadn't travelled far and the temperature gauge was still reading normal. A local mechanic from the garage reattached the hose for me which is currently secured with a spring clip, rather than a jubilee clip. I then proceeded to refill the system with water (unfortunately that's all they had).

I then carried on with my journey and have since returned home, there's no indication that anything is wrong. The car is still running fine and the temp gauge is just below the middle. I've checked my oil for froth in case the head gasket had gone, but there's no froth or whitening.

My worry is I'm about to do a 1400KM round trip from Saudi Arabia to Abu Dhabi this Thursday, so wondered if I should be concerned?

Thanks in advance. Clive.

Petrols do like doing this.

I think you need new clips.

Factory ones go weak

If the spring clip isn't leaking, I'd leave it. They don't require adjustments as it gets colder out.

I had to google what a jubilee clip is! Just a standard hose clamp it seems. Rather than that, I'd get some constant tension clamps. They're like a jubilee clip except they have a spring in them that maintains constant tension instead of constant diameter.

trouble with the spring clips, is they go weak with age, and I have also seen them break in 2 ! (without touching them!)
