What to do

I have a 1991 90 defender that had a new chassis and general re build 5 years ago. I've become self employed and it's not big enough.
I'm thinking d2 or early d3 commercial or just put a hard floor in a car. Problem is is it better to struggle with the car I partly re built or go for more practical unknown horrors of d2 or 3 and then with my low mileage petrol or diesel?
I love my defender and don't want to see it go but I know I should change it. I would just like other non bias views on what way I should go.

Depends what job you do.
A commercial is used against tax relief, defender might be, ( I'm a stone dyker so 4x4 is compulsory and I get tax relief on my d3 Thumbs Up )

Car kitted out is unlikely to get much tax relief.
A van is tax deductible

Good luck

D2 more reliable that D3.

D3 will be a money pit

I have started up as a handyman. I do have a trailer but it's not always easy getting it in or parked
I don't often need more room but a wheelbarrow fills a 90.
I had a d2 and it wasn't any trouble and so far the d3 hasn't had much but I worry every time I turn the key as to which fault it may get.
And after it's performance today in some serious snow I still love my defender.
With the hate of diesel at the moment what are the petrol one's like?

If just starting out, I'd use what I've got Thumbs Up
Then maybe think about what suits your needs best.
I use my d3 for work, seats folded down and fill up with tools, cement etc but I need a trailer most of the time as a petrol mixer is a wee bit heavy to keep lifting into the back, ( not as young or daft as I used to be Rolling with laughter )
But it can still get stuck on wet grass Big Cry
