D3 vs LR3 differences in spec? |
|
Does anyone know if a UK spec D3 will meet the US requirements for import ? wondering if it's worth taking my LHD D3 to the US with me when I move out there soon and having checked online I can't find out if there's any differences between the two specs (crash worthiness, bumpers, etc?) They look the same from the outside
Any pointers would be appreciated!

No, just the petrol engines... was trying to find out if there were cosmetic differences that would mean mods to make it compliant...

You should check if they will even allow for the car to be registered in the US. Due to emission standards here.

I guess you may need to fit yellow/red side marker lights which is dead easy on a D3.
Bulb holder and 5W bulb for every corner and slide into existing lights

Dave
Unless that engine is type approved you might not have any hope.

I know I can take it in for a year as a temporary resident without having to pass emissions etc but wasn't planning on bringing it back... although I think I have to take it out of the country at the end of that period...

Customs officers in the US have a habit of destroying Defenders if they find them being imported into the US without the correct clearance, so be sure they give you the all clear before arrival.

After a year you can drive into Canada or Mexico or ship it to the Caribbean Islands.

I really wouldn't bother. Your D3 can't be worth that much, and you can pick up a decent 4.4V8 here for very little indeed. The cost of shipping and clearances will be about £2k all done, which makes it dead money. It's a bad idea. Don't even consider it.
Take a look at kbb.com for V8 values. PAGODA

Your diesel will need to be over 30 years of age. So no diesel D3 can go to the US in the normal course of events.

Diesels can go in to US as temporary imports for 12 months , Did it with mine, shipped to Port Hueneme, CA & back from Baltimore . US Customs & Border protection could not have been better. There was a waiver for none compliance of Emission Regs. All I needed was my V5C.

Well as it's only done 25,000 miles (about 100k less than most advertised on kbb), has no rust and has all the mods I want on it and I can get the shipping costs covered by my new employer I don't agree that "your D3 won't be worth that much" or "not to bother" but thanks for the link to the website... very useful !
