Bonnet struts

The bonnet struts on my Discovery 3 are not up to much. I have a lump on my head to show for it.
Do the generic struts- twenty quid for two on Amazon- do the job well enough please? Discovery 3 tdv6 HSE 2007

No experience with failing bonnet struts but there's mixed views on the "cheaper" tailgate struts. I bought a pair from SGS after a recommendation on here and they were very good. These are their bonnet struts:

On SGS, “a lot” of people use their struts in the rear to push the tailgate up. If you have a ladder they can add some extra gas into the struts on request.
