Once again, information from the site has saved me a lot of time and trouble! My D3 did the Xmas tree dash effect a couple of nights ago, all the faults in the world showed up, so a rapid stop and engine off jobbie. Attempting a re-start after the computer had shut down resulted in a click from the starter area and lot's of little noises from the fuse box area but no starter turning. A retired Land-rover mechanic mate came out, plugged in his computer, cleared a mile of faults, still no go. Recovered the vehicle to my workshop, figured that it was either new starter, new alternator time, then looked on here.
Picked up the thread about battery positive cable being prone to abrade on the front diff housing, went under the car, sure enough - big burn mark on diff, shorted cable and blown 400amp fuse! £5 fuse, temporary repair to the cable and she lives again! Well done D3 forum, thanks guys.
