My towbar and the missing "bit"

I have a towbar on my D4 as pic below.

However, mine does not have the green turning bit, just a hole from 1 side to the other.

Its on the car, was on when I got, didnt fall off when I had a back box on, but now I am worried that its not safe.

Can anyone help? Is it safe? Where do i get the green thing and key?

Oh, and I cant get off either (not that it matters).

Cheers

The green knob is to pull that pin you see at rear of the hitch back in to take the hitch out of the receiver. It is spring loaded so I wouldn't think it would fall out, but how are you going to detach it? Using a screw driver?

Thanks Ron.

I don't need to detach it, happy for it just to stay there TBH.

You have to be carefull though as it will be a temptation for a scumbag to steal it off the back.

You can buy a complete green part, I've often seen them on eBay etc, so I'd keep an eye out for one if I were you Thumbs Up

Found this, from Duckworths parts (nothing to do with me)

If you can see through it it will be no good without the part that goes through the bar.

HI,

There are TWO versions with different green bits (I know, I ordered the wrong one first time round). I cant remember the right way to find out which is which to get the part number Im sure someone will say.

And as said id get it sorted, so it doesn't get nicked.

new lock about £18 at dealer...easy fit....suggest you don't leave the hook on when not in use.....it will get nicked

would suggest you are stretching your insurance just a bit with having a defective tow bar...there are problems with the bar when complete...let alone with major safety bits missing..
theres plenty bedtime reading on here about these bars

I would if you are going to tow a lot.
I Asked tech at LR dealership if removable are ok, He said yes for occasional use but said he wouldn't trust them.
I got a tow trust one from Towbars Direct

Is it a DIY job, or do I have to mess with all the wiring?
