My front discs have done 72000 miles and have quite a pronounced lip on them, so looks like it's time to replace them. Has anyone done this themself yet? A web search has shown each disc is about £25, and from the pictures they are secured by 1 coutersunk screw on the hub so I would think it's just a case of unbolting the calipers, removing the screw, and fitting the new disc. If anyone's done it already advice would be appreciated. There's no way i'm paying the dealer to do that! D3 TDV6 S 2005

Mine have just been changed at 95000 miles. Very big lip on the outside edge. I waited until the pad warning came on and replaced pads too. You must put new pads in with new discs, so wait until they need changing too. Club 18 - 30 (I wish !!)

True for fronts, can be more involved on the rear due to the EPB - including having to put the EPB into "service mode" via attached pc.....had this done by JE when I upgraded the rear discs to S/C spec, took longer to get the EPB into the right state than to change the h/w! EPB worked fine before and so far after so no experience or comment on any possible side effects of any other method.... Cheers

You can put the EPB in service mode without the need of a computer ..

Perhaps my misunderstanding - perhaps they just needed the pc to lookup the procedure.... Is EPB into service mode mandatory for changing the rear discs? Cheers

Service mode is very different from 'mounting' position, if the discs are being removed for EPB inspection then service mode is OK, if the discs are being replaced or the EPB stripped & cleaned, then the extra 'slack' provided by the 'mounting' position is needed. Remember that the system needs to be fully isolated as if left powered up, it will attempt a periodic torque reapply.... which may sting a bit TorqTune

| Worn to metal after 34,000 kms |
|
I have just experienced that horrible sound of metal on metal after 34k kms, and been presented with a bill by my stealer for $700 to replace both rear brake discs on a 2 year old D3. They use the excuse that discs and pads are consumables and are not covered by warranty, and the fact that the wear sensor was not on the pad that wore out was shrugged off. Any thoughts on how I should go about convincing my dealer that this should be a warranty claim? Gotta get it dirty!
