MOT failure - Brake pipes leaking rear |
|
Hi everyone,
Thanks everyone for this brilliant resource. Already helped me out of a couple of holes.
My 05 D3 has failed the MOT with leaking brake pipe to OSR. I would like to replace the pipes to both rear brakes, I've tried searching but can't find a 'how to' on this.
I've seen comments on cutting them an splicing new ones under the passenger seat etc, does this prevent having to strip most of the underside of the Disco apart?
Appreciate any advice to make this job as painless as possible please.
Many thanks all
Rob

I think you join them under the back. (behind exhaust heat shield)

More seriously, not under passenger seat.
Drop exhaust from clamps just forward of middle exhaust box and rearward.
The exhaust may need to be wiggled to avoid rear mudguards letting it drop down to give access to...
The heat shields above the middle exhaust box.
Make joins on the straight section of brake pipes here (but slightly offset from one another) and run new copper line back to the rear calipers...new flexi sections and the small rigid pipe aren't too expensive so probably worth changing at same time.
Worth filling the fluid reservoir and using a spreader clamp to keep the brake pedal pressed to avoid losing too much fluid.
Have done the job several times now with this tool:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brake-Pipe-Flar...3233962008
Make sure the cut pipe is deburred properly and the old pipe you're joining too is nice and clean.
If you have rear aircon the pipes do make it trickier.
Worth getting some new pipe clips as these can break when removing the old pipe. Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto
