Damaged side step trim strip
Noticed today my N/S side step trim strip has been damaged. New rear tyres on Tuesday and it was all ok then. Notice that the trim strip is available on its own. Trim strip is about same price as pair side steps Anyone had to acquire this trim strip or buy pair of steps? Anyone know best place to buy same? Thanks for help jbd

Hi there,
When my passenger trim fell off I just bought a pair of brand new OEM steps off eBay. Fitted a treat and look exactly the same.

I damaged the trim to one of my side steps which fell off in the end, I recently bought a single side step off flea bay (brand new but not OEM) for £45. There are always steps for sale on there either brand new or from a breakers.General Grabber AT3's

I treat side steps as consumable parts and change them about every 3 years.
The rivets that hold on the aluminium trim dissolve (or the holes they go through rust) and allow the trim to fall off. Riveting them back with bigger rivets helps them last a bit longer but eventually the need replacing.
Not all steps are identical though. I bought a set of steps intending to use the existing brackets to make the job easier. Unfortunately, the replacement steps were slightly thicker and wouldn't fit the old brackets so I had to replace them too.

I was a bit surprised by the amount of corrosion on mine compared to how they, superficially, looked.
I might pop the treads of the new ones and dose them in ACF50.
Also wondering about spacing/dropping them a couple of mil as in the recent snow/ice cycle I came back to the car and had to chip off the ice on the steps before the door could open.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto
