Land Rovers top London most stolen listings!

Land Rover cars have now topped the Transit van as the most stolen vehicles in London....

They are being stolen without keys via the relay attack method or via key compromise....

Whereas they were previously being exported there is an increasing number reappearing as rung vehicles and resold to the unsuspecting public....

If anyone on here is looking to buy privately please please be careful.. I am told the VIN stickers are replaced,as is the visible VIN, and they look very very good and would fool most people...

Unusually with some recovered recently the stamped in VIN is being ground out and filled and painted but to a high level. Thus it is imperative that you look properly for the stamped in VIN...if it’s not there where it should be run away as fast as you can!

You will lose all your hard earned cash buying one of these vehicles! You have no right to it as the ownership title will always remain with the original loser or their insurer!

Gents, I know i’ve been banging on about it for years but it is reality! Use a key pouch and/or switch off your keyless entry unless you consider it imperative...
Never hand your keys over to valeters, car wash operatives, car park staff unless you trust them .implicitly...
Please be careful buying though!

And don’t rely on a biscuit or oxo tin, that doesn’t work. Plus unfortunately the switch off keyless hack doesn’t work on all D4s.

The tin method should work assuming it's got a good fitting lid, that makes a good electrical contact with the base container forming a faraday cage

Not a plastic tin is it? I’ve tried a couple of metal ones and they work fine as the others have said. Whistle Wink

You can keep your key in a faraday bag, inside a tin, inside a lead lined coffin six foot underground they do not need the key, all they do is smash a window get the iiDTool or similar and reprogram a blank key to the vehicle.

Even the disc locks only last 3 minutes before they are taken off and that’s the noisy way with an angle grinder ( check YouTube ) the stop locks that feed through the steering wheel are the same less than 30 seconds.

Tracker and immobiliser are the same they just scan where the frequency is emitting from the car rip the panel off and disable said tracker or immobiliser, so what can we do,

Basically make it less attractive to steal, multiple layers of security like above but not just one, so odb lock, immobiliser, tracker steering lock I know it costs but I am still totting my losses up, luckily I had GAP Return to purchase cover but all the other bits I had in/on my D4 like the new tyres, timing belt, megaflush, rock slider, sump guard etc plus bits inside I am over £4K down.

The later D4’s 15/16 MY I believe had the KVM locked to two keys so that will help but like my 12MY was unlocked we need to do more. Ultimately if they want it they will take it but let’s make it harder for them.

Surely it is not that simple to code a key, as with the IIDTool you need to have the ignition on. Which means you need a key to start with?
