lower tailgate
Hi guys, ive got a problem with my lower tailgate,
ive done a search but 99% are all about the upper tailgate, my upper tailgate works fine
its the lower one that wont open,
there no noises when i press the release button,
i've removed the interior trim and checked the voltage at the switch, it reads 2.1 volts, is that right?
i've bypassed the switch but it still wont work,
help

That's not quite true. The release cable is in the lower tailgate but it only releases the upper tailgate.
2.1 volts does sound very low, have you tried putting 12 volts to either side of the switch to see if it releases??Mods:

i know that
my upper tailgate works fine, its the lower one that's inop, so upper tailgate fixes are not a lot of use to me.
i've tried it again this morning and there's no power the the switch.
i'll put 12v to the switch, ive got a feeling it'll work..
is there a fuse???

right ive done a bit more ckecking today
switch, no power but i'm thinking it's a earth/negative switch, so there wont be any power there,
actuator, pulled the conector off and tested for power, voltmeter syas 11.1 volts, this is without pressing the switch/release button, battery reads 12.5volts... this seems very strange
i put 12volts to the actuators from another battery and they both work, you can hear them moving/clicking
i'm stuck....help

I don't know what kind of switch it is and do doubt your assumption, but IF it was an earth switch as you suggest ( i.e. only applied an earth route once pressed ) then one side must be live all the time................mustn't it?????

It's got me baffled, there's only 2 wires to the release button, 1 is defo an earth/negative,
So if the other wire is surposed to be live then surely it would just short circuit/fuse once pressed??
Think I need a wiring diagram,
11 plus volts at the actuators all the time but no movement,
Put 12 to them and they release....
