D3 thuds at low speed and turning???
Hello and Merry Crimbo folks,
This isn't how I was planning to spend my xmas eve...
However, I've noticed (although I was trying my best to ignore it) that at low speed (setting off) and turning either right or left I can feel an intermittent thudding which then dies out as I straighten up (or is not as noticeable when driving straight)? It's almost as if it's an engagement issue or something in the drive train slipping. I'm confident it's not a front CV joint, however, it's puzzling me as to what this thudding could be.
Any of you good folk had a similar experience? Any clues?
(It's a 2.7 auto with 142k on the clock).

Try driving slowly then hard on the brakes, if it thumps take a good look at the front arm rear lower bushes.

Hi, just a thought but maybe the gear linkage is getting a bit stiff, mine has just stated doing it again. Tends to only happen when I’ve slowed right down to make a turn, just a split second loss of drive.

If it only does it when turning quite tightly L or R, could be the transfer box clutches need re calibrating. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Thanks for the responses fellas.
It 'shouldn't' be the bushes as they've been replaced a few weeks ago.
I'll try the brake test to see if that gives any clues.
Transfer box clutches sounds interesting. Yes, it appears to be happening (or just very noticeable) during tight low speed turning.
What's involved with the calibration and why would they suddenly start to play up?

Try drop links.
I had a similar, low speed turning and take off. More of a clonk than a thud though. Rear drop link had cracked and was hitting the drive shaft (can see the marks it made)

The more I read the more I 'think' it could be the clutch calibration. Can this be done by the diyer with a tool or is best to get a pro to look at re-calibrating?

I took mine back to a dealer, as it happened when I drove it home after a service, including transfer box oil change. Though no one knows why it happened But I believe the re calibration can be done using an IID tool. Some peeps have mentioned doing it without a diagnostic tool, don’t know how, or if this is successful I’m afraid. I have since done another transfer box oil change myself, and this problem didn’t arise again, so I have never had to try and recalibrate using my IID tool.........
