The Future Looks Bleak For Values!! |
|
Was deleting old emails today which included a few from WBAC. Out of interest got an up to date valuation.
As usual they sent through a txt to my mobile. As I tend not to delete them it was interesting to see how my D4 has lost valuation over the last year. Not good reading.
£28805 November 2018
£24410 March 2019
£22790 October 2019
Ok it’s covered 7k more miles and is a year older.
But that equates to a tad under under 21% depreciation in 12 months Discovery 4 HSE

I guess euro 5?
I did something similar for the other car we have, a MY14 Volvo V70, as I was curious on real depreciation (= what someone would really pay). A year ago in the summer it was worth 25k eur, two days ago “between 18-19.5k on a good day and if you include both sets of wheels”

my old MY16 (euro 6) was dropping like a brick on WBAC went from £33k to £24k in 6 months and 8k miles. I got 5k more than that for it!
Dealer did enlighten me to WBAC, he said the price is also driven by what they are getting at auction for similar models so if they have a bad month your price will be reflective. MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

I’ve found WBAC prices are normally more than your local main LR dealer, I kid you not!

I have used WBAC in the past. Before I retired I had a 330i estate that I used for work. I bought it with 25k and when I got rid it had 140k
WBAC offered me the best cash price and I took it. Just the usual about stone chips.
He completely missed the fact that the bluetooth module and nav was and was a £1.5k replacement

It’s worth bearing in mind that car sales were a lot higher only two or three years ago, so there’s plenty of used stock coming into a market with a lot less buyers in it. The used values can only go down on that basis.
Just be glad that you’re not a dealership with a lot of used cars in stock - which brings another damper, when dealers want to sell what they’ve got and then only buy in new stock when they absolutely have to. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I'll second that. Dealers trade in values have been pretty poor from recent past experience.

My dealer commented when discussing my d4 they will be sending a lot of d3 and 4’s straight to auction when the 110 comes out. Getting them to standard and dealing with warranty just doesn’t stack up. Their thoughts are there will be a flood of d3/4’s hitting the market 2020 with the defender which will hit values. It’s as if no one that buys cars has to make a living out of selling any products or services! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

What is most frustrating is I bought it nearly new with very low mileage and it had already taken a £15k loss, admittedly that was from it’s list price. So I thought I would be minimising my hit, it appears not!!
First owner took a 25% hit and I’ve taken a potential 48% hit in less than 3 years on a vehicle that I purchased at a deflated price.
It would seem the best option available would be to keep it until it dies.
But of course as it’s a LR that could be tomorrow Discovery 4 HSE

I spent a long time deciding what to do either keep my d4 until it dies and ignore the residuals or jump ship. The deciding factor was tracking down my original d3 and agreeing a buyback plan. I will get it next year and look to convert it to EV.
In the meantime we have a van and d5 covering the d4 duties ! MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

You’re all amateurs at this depreciation game; try buying a brand new high spec FFRR and add 35,000 miles pa to it, then you’ll know the true meaning of depreciation!
Best not to get too hung up on it and just enjoy the ride 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
