Torque converter or something else?

Hi all

When accelerating, particularly with people in the car, every so often I’ll get a series of three grrrrr/grinding noises. Plus every so often when accelerating from low speed, particularly up hill, I’ll get what feels like tramping. I’ve just had a front wheel bearing changed but it was there before that, and I know I need lower suspension arms and a steering insert ball joint doing at some point due to MOT advisories. Plus there is some land river slack in propshafts similar to an only series II or III Land Rover.

My thought is something to do with torque converter and maybe needing a fluid top up at the very least. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Andrew

Can you sense a theme here? Laughing
Mind you the 2.25 Petrol Series II with Series III wings for quad headlights, high power alternator conversion and a few other bits and bobs does rather break the theme Laughing

I would start by checking the fluid level which i doubt will be the cause but worth checking, then a full flush. Any faults or the big F on the dash ?

Thanks. Probably just do a flush then as shouldn’t be that much more work is it?

Nothing showing on dash, don’t know about fault codes as only just ordered a diagnostic box.

Thanks

Took the disco for a quick drive this morning and the tramping problem was most noticeable between 40 & 50 and was midway between gear changes, prop shaft or CV or??

"Tramping" usually indicates diff wind up so I would be checking rear arm suspension bushes and ball joints

Thanks. I was wondering whether that was the case with suspension bushes affecting it. I know the fronts need doing so I will check the back as well. I also need to look at the propshafts as well as I think there is a certain amount of play in the UJs, could that affect it too with front and rear diffs being slightly out of sync?
