Is it worth repairing or should go spares n repairs
Hi all. I’m just looking for a bit of advice. After failing its recent mot I’m not sure weather to repair or get rid. On the whole the car is tidy, it’s in pretty good condition for it’s age and has always driven sweet. It’s a 56 plate XS model.
The HDC fault started coming on and I wasn’t sure if it was due to low battery as the car wasn’t used much. I did manage to drive the car and check the hdc worked and all the air suspension worked fine but this would all be disabled once the intermittent fault appears.
I took it for its MOT and I think some of the problems with the hdc are linked to the issues found.
I’ll upload a copy of the test sheet.
What would you do? Repair the car at a cost of around £1500 or sell it as spares n repairs? I only use it on weekends as I have a van for work so it does around 2k miles a year.
Any help or advice would be welcome
Thanks
Tom.

This will all depend on the fail sheet?
You could post your reg number on here and this will allow the test results to be viewed online. Not everyone wants to reveal their reg number online so it's your choice.

Sorry I hadn’t realised the test wasn’t attached.

Yes HDC issue could well be low battery
As you have a Van I guess your good with your hands.
Time to learn DIY car mechanics and fix the rear brakes yourself
Think of it as a project!
Lots of guides on here and youtube videos.
Maybe get the garage to do the suspension. That's no fun for a learner
Pipes
You don't need to change the lines all the way to the front.
Just to a point where they are good.
Put cling flim over the brake tank to make air tight, to prevent the tank draining down complely, as its a pain for a diyer to get the air out

Wow - how does brake lines, brakes and suspension come to £1500?
Discs and pads all round - an easy DIY job?
Brake pipes/hoses and a suspension arm pin - nowhere near £1500 surely?

The fail sheet does not describe a well maintained car, in good condition. You can repair it to pass an MOT, but I would expect further issues before long. The rear brake pipes are not an easy DIY fix (join) nor is the suspension arm.Chris

This could be the start of the money pit as more maintenance issues arise month by month. A lack of ongoing investment will often lead to a shopping list like this.

I’d be more than happy doing the pads and discs myself but with the other bits I’m just not sure. The garage said it could be around £1200 just to get the minimum done for its test then I’d need to look at tyres and the list of advisory’s? It’s a tough decision, I do love my land rover but at the same time it has to be justified when money is so tight (and so am I!)

That is my main worry. Maybe this is just the start!

I'd be ringing around and getting a few quotes before deciding. Also you mention being tight ...what's going to cost more, fixing it or buying a new car?

First thing I'd do is replace the brake light bulb 👍Mark

The problem with a lot of them defects, is once you get into them they evolve upwards!
