New Gear kn*b problem...

Purchased a replacement selector knob for the D3 from Ceekay which has arrived and just had a quick look this morning to swap it over and realised the red shaft is different to the D3 one as I guess its from a D4 6 speed (mine is a 2009 D3 HSE 6 speed) - the part number LR013873 is listed as fitting both but there is a difference in the plastic shaft activated by the button.

Didnt have my phone with me when i took the old one off but Ive grabbed a couple of images off the web

New one

Old one

Found there was a process to swap the red shaft which is longer for the one from the D3 - Ive found this from back in 2010 but pictures are long since gone https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/disco3-disc...ight=lever

Does anyone remember how to do it, as I dont want to break it in the process. Sure its an easy process but dont want to go at it hamfisted and damage it.

Thumbs Up

All sorted!

The trick is to take the black bottom trim off by separating from the main knob via the slot in the back. Then prise the silver trim out at the top then slide it upwards, then you can prise the trigger assembly out and forwards from the top, as you can now get to it without the silver trim. that frees the selector shaft (Red or white bit depending on which version you have) swap this over to the one you need to fit then reassemble.

Hi sorry to jump in but As I recall if the lever you have is a d3 the bottom should be white and a d4 it should be red

yes correct the red selector is for the D4 although they are listed online as being for a D3 or a D4. hence the need to swap the selector fom the old know onto the new one so it fits into the D3.
