ARB lockers Front and Rear D4, Long time no update

Well it’s been a fair old time since doing an update on here so thought now’s as good a time as any.

Where to begin!!! I’ll start off straight with the ARB Airlockers that have just been installed into the front and rear of the D4... yes that right rear! So it’s widely known that ARB make the lockers for the front diff for the D3/4 but that the rear diff is only available for the D3.after much discussion with an American LR parts/mod supplier I had been convinced that the diff locker would fit the D4, checked part numbers on all sorts of sites, and was happy... well I was wrong, I guess I got Diff blind Rolling with laughter when Joe up at JAS Land rovers split the diff he found out that no... ARB were correct, I was gutted and felt like a right muppet. Being the hero he is though, he suggested getting a D3 rear diff from a breakers and transplanting that into the D4, same ratio/prop/halfshafts etc so it should fit right. Fortunately it did and the D4- D3.98 conversion was done Laughing I bow down to the guy’s determination and willingness to get the D4 triple locked because I’m sure lesser garages would have simply given up Bow down switches neatly installed into the overhead panel in the front and compressor mounted nicely in the tow bar cubby (LHS of boot)

Next up is the Winch. I chose to go with a discrete set up and went for the Prospeed mount as it allows the big warn Zeon 12-S Platinum to be fitted whereas other hidden winches don’t allow the same space. Reason for choosing this winch being that it’s remotely operated clutch removes the need to squeeze hands in through the bumper, and it’s got plenty of pulling power for the big heavy D4 Thumbs Up

One of the reasons it’s so heavy now is that it’s “fully” protected underneath now with a right mish mash of underbody Armour.
Prospeed- Lower arm guards, Rear diff guard, and Raptor coated Rock/tree sliders with the step inserts.
Devon 4x4- front/sump guard with recovery loop hole, Transmission guard, Fuel tank guard
Shire Fabrications- Compressor guard. Previously had their sliders too but they’ve been replaced with Prospeed.
RLD spare wheel protector of course Thumbs Up

Last year the BFG KM3 Mud terrain tyres were released in 265/60/18 in the US and AUS, managed to Reserve the first set arriving into the UK and had them fitted months before they were even listed on the BFG site. It helps to pester these companies if it’s something you really want Rolling with laughter

Lighting.... Yes, Lots Rolling with laughter
Starting at the back, I’ve got a Lazer utility 85 (gen2) mounted onto the Prospeed rear ladder. Awesome light great for lighting up the camp area for setting up
Mounted into a custom made one-off Zunsport grille are two Lazer ST-4’s giving the spot/flood combo ideal for most uses. For when extra power is needed I’ve got a Prospeed Rai Compatible light bar Mount with some Lumina Predator X2 and X4’s fitted. These have a drl strip in them which is switched separately from the lighting control panel in the D4. The forward facing lights are switched and linked to the high beam so can be completely deactivated, usually just leave the Lazers switched on with high beam. Rear lamp is also switched on the overhead and also in the boot on my AR Power Solutions (AKA Andy Foster Thumbs Up ) boot power panel. On which there’s multiple 12v and USB ports linked to my Aux battery under the bonnet on a T-Max split charge system.

Canvas. Opted to go for the Roof tent for several reason. Keeps you away from all the lions and tiger round North Wales Rolling with laughter it looks good in my opinion, folded and out. I’ve got the Howling moon stargazer, and on the rare occasions when it can be used without the fly sheet and with the roof panels open, it’s more than paid for itself in views of the stars above, an unrivalled nights sleep. When fitted with the annexe and withe the Foxwing 270° awning out the space you get is phenomenal. Main downside to the RTT is having all that weight up there can make it a touch rollier, and louder (but that’s not a problem), and on some lanes it can be a touch tight squeezing under branch’s. Multi-storey car parks are out of the question too. But it’s only 4 bolts and it lifts off so a future plan is to install a pulley under the car port to make this easier to get on and off.

Other differences from the last Rig post (Nov 17 Embarassed ) Upper Boot Basket, HR Auto Specialist Fridge cage/slider, travall dog guard instead of LR guard, LR DRL kit, halogens lights replaced with Xenons with “fairy lights” and Robbies fairy light on unlock mod, facelift rear lights and probably more that I’ve forgotten about along the way.

Apologies for the length of the write up but it’s been some time since I last did this and there’s obviously been a few big changes Thumbs Up

Did you keep the non ediff half shafts on the back or upgrade them as well ?
 05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system
12 RRS SDV6 HSE (Hers) - Gone and replaced with an I Pace - I can tell you now EV is not the future yet

Yeah kept the standard Non-eDiff halfshafts. Not sure if the E-diff shafts will fit or not, think they’re possibly a bit shorter than the non locking shafts? Something to look at in the future though because iirc they’re strengthened compared to the standard.

eDiff half shafts are different length, they're slightly shorter to compensate for the wider differential internals. They are however the same for D3/D4 and RRS so it's easy to get hold of them.

Thanks Tiger, that makes sense - there's a lot of myth and legend around about ediffs so its good to have someone that knows chime in
