Bolt grade for side steps
I am fitting some shire fabrications sliders. Based on posts on the forum I am painting with raptor first. I am also thinking of swapping to stainless bolts. Has anyone done this? I can only find A2 stainless bolts which I do not think are as strong as the 10.9 Grade bolts which came with the sliders. Thoughts appreciated.

I'm fitting my sliders over Christmas, also. In an effort to reduce metal on metal erosion I painted the inside of them (the mating surface) with truck bed liner and I'm going to make some thin plastic washers to sit inbetween the steps and sills. 10,9 bolts are strong; I suppose you risk sheering if you go softer. Use copper paste on the bolts and you should be OK with the ones they provided. One piece of advice I picked up off another member is to use a tap on the threads in the sills. I'm also going wash out my sills and apply cavity wax before fitting (the PO liked to drive the vehicle on the beach )PAGODA

A2 are nowhere near a 10.9
A4 are better if you want to use stainless.

10.9 are pretty manly bolt wise, 8.8 are pretty much what I would expect on side steps etc, 4.4 are way weaker but will still do the job.

Pagoda do you not think your plastic washers will create a gap for water to sit in? I was thinking of fitting some door rubber seal at the top to keep out the muck.
I think they are m8 But maybe the 10.9 is overkill?

For the plastic I'm going to use something very thin indeed. I'm eyeing up a soda water bottle at the moment and may cut them from that. Judging by the ones I find on the beach they should outlast the LR. I don't think something maybe .5-.75MM will interfere with the steps. I don't expect them to fit perfectly plus the door covers them most of the time. I did think about running a thin silicone bead along the top to keep the water out but have decided against it as it'll probably keep the water in. 10,9 would be overkill. 8,8 would be fine IMO.PAGODA
If you decide to go with stainless then I can recommend Kay's Fasteners on eBay. I've used them for years for my stainless bolts etc. They have A4 M8s.
