Weird electrical problem linked with brake - please help |
|
Discovery 06 HSE
Really could do with some advice and help please.
So when i turn the ignition off and take my foot off the brake, suddenly my hazards come on, central locking keeps activating and the heater keeps blowing on and off.
If i put my foot back on the brake it weirdly then all stops, until i take my foot off and it goes again - rinse and repeat!
Ive had to disconnect the battery to make it stop... what's happening here because i have not a clue and I'm hoping one of you geniuses can help.
Cheers

Door lock failure is quite common, I have had two in 5 years.
Best to get codes read.
If you have no code reader, icarsoft is the cheap good option, iid gap is the much more expensive option.

For a £15 part change the brake light switch , it’s worth a try , it seems to up many thing when on the way out and only takes 5 mins to change -------------------------------------------------
if you cant hold on dont let go , it ill come in handy for something even if you never use it.

Out of interest does it do it if you leave the side lights on until after you have turned the car off and taken your foot off the brake. There is a possibility it could be an earthing issue. But brake switch or rear bulbs would also be a contender! Must stop buying shiny toys....

First thing to check is the large plugs on the ecu’s behind the battery. Water ingress here can cause all sorts of weird issues. If you remove the battery you can release them and check for water ingress and corroded pins.
Have you washed the under bonnet area with a power washer by any chance?

Sounds like the dash cluster affecting the CAN BUS. Next time it happens, smack the top of the dash binnacle a few times. 012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

Thanks guys I'm going to check all those suggestions and feedback! Just got the switch so off to try that first.
There does seem something weird with the brake as before all this happened when I was stopping the parking collision sensor goes off too..

The problem you have is that there aren’t any direct links to all of these parts other than CAN BUS. Prime example being the parking sensors, activated by the switch or reverse selection. The brakes have nothing to do with them other than the CAN. Try getting it to happen again and when it does, smack the cluster top a few times. That’s the BUS controller, if it stops or changes your symptoms then you need a specialist to repair it. 012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

It’s not a guaranteed fix unfortunately. Just be aware of it and don’t throw loads of money at lots of things. If you search the forum you will see lots of posts with similar issues. 012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

So I have tried everything everyone has suggested.
Changed the brake switch - didn't resolve
Removed battery checked for water etc - no issues it seems there.
Keeping side lights on didn't change the outcome.
Bashing the top made no changes.
Checked batter voltage was over 12v
I checked the wiring loom on passenger side and can't see any obvious split wires for example..
Once I turn the ignition off thats when it starts and take my foot off the brake thats when it starts, turn it on then there's no issues.
Why would pressing the brake stop it all going off?
And then release the brake it starts again?
I'm not a mechanic so I'm struggling to understand the connection.
Hence hoping to find answer from the expert.
Is there anything else to try/change? Any relays?
Its a tad frustrating.. TIA
