Crankshaf locking tool - what are you using? For a manual D3

Hi,

Set off to do my timing belt last night with one of these timing locking tools:

However the flywheel locking tool (for a manual g/box) is too large to go through the bell housing hole. Ended up taking the flywheel off to wire brush out the bell housing hole. Still doesn't fit. The hole measures at 34.80mm, the tool 34.98mm:

I could machine down the diameter, but my lathes broken. Looking on the forum this appears a common issue. Looking on line at alternative suppliers I suspect that all the available tools have the same manufacturer somewhere in China.

Question - What crank shaft locking tools have you used successfully on a manual D3 2.7?

Thanks,

Adrian

Very common issue has been covered a few times, just get the grinder out and lightly remove a little bit of the surface.
Or you can clean the hole with a dremmel.

Yeah there's a few about that don't fit easily. As said, take it down a couple of mil and it should be fine. You're gonna need new flywheel bolts now too as they're a one shot only bolt. Big Cry

ps You didn't really need to lock the flywheel for the timing belts, just the cam's will do as the flywheel won't move. Whistle A dab of paint reassures this Thumbs Up

Some quality time with some emery paper and the flywheel locking pin for a manual gearbox fits.

Shame it comes over size, looking at other threads it looks like this has happened before.
