Discovery 3 front 2.7 2005 Manual Gearbox Front Diff Faulty

I have lost drive from my front Diff on my Discovery 3 2.7 2005 and can hear a really loud grinding sound inside the diff. I have been looking on line at a few second hand ones , and need to know , can I put a Diff from a Automatic Discovery on mine as mine is a manual . Also a lot of Diffs are being advertised with different ratios , Do I have to find out the ratio of my Diff and get a exact match or will any ratio be ok. I am in Cheshire if any one has a good second hand Diff that will be ok for mine for sale please contact me p I can collect . TIA for any help

You need same ratio as currently fitted. I think 3.07 is correct for manual transmission. Changing front diff is an awkward job, especially if you have not done one before.

Thanks for the reply aja4x4 , Already replaced the driveshaft and that spins when I put it in gear and put the Discovery on Axle stands but the front driveshafts don t move , and can hear the diff grinding inside and loud rattle coming from the Diff .

I changed a front diff on my manual D3, it was noisy, not failed. It's a reasonably easy job on axle stands. I got a replacement from a breakers, delivered on a pallet.

Thanks for the replies aja 4x4 and rrhool . aja4x4 I have just taken off /checked both front drive shafts they are both ok and were properly located in the diff . Think I need a new diff . It does not look too difficult to take out and fit a new one.
