Oil and filter change and I think I’ve over filled by 200ml

Ok so did and oil and filter change at the weekend. I emptied and let drain old oil plus replaced filter. On refill I replaced with approx 5.7 lt however I now read that a dry fill is 5.7 and service fill is 5.5 lt. Will 200ml overfill cause damage or should I attempt to drain a bit. Thanks.

I wouldn’t worry about 200ml, personally.

Have you checked the dip stick? How far over is it reading?

As a rule of thumb, I always under fill first - for example, I’d have put 5L in and then slowly filled the rest, while checking the dip stick. Run the engine and then re-check levels once it’s settled again.

I thought similar. I agree with your method however got distracted, put 5.5 in ran engine but probably didn’t leave long enough to let new oil settle. Thus read dip stick to early😳 and added another 200mm. Will check dipstick this morning, there not the easiest to read especially with clean oil. 👍

I usually find I put 5.6 litres in for an oil change. So you're perhaps only 100ml over. Thumbs Up

I get the feeling these engines hold on to quite a bit of oil in the cooler maybe, I put 5.5 litres in and it always puts the level between normal and max.

Thanks all. I did Syphon 250ml out of the dipstick tube and now bang on the upper mark. I was only getting paranoid as I always hear stories of seals going when turbo Diesel engines are over filled. 👍👍
