Belt tensioner

Thought I could hear a new noise. Like a failing bearing, engine speed related. I kept imagining it was the gearbox input shaft bearing, but I decided to start looking somewhere easier. Took the front end drive belt off to check the alternator, water pump and tensioner/idlers, and guess what I found!

Tensioner failing and the pulley rubbing the alternator bracket.

See the gap forming between the tensioner and its base

New tensioner, idlers and belt on their way!

Lucky escape, would have been nasty hurtling down the motorway and it letting go.
