Quoted 10 hrs labour Torque converter replacement ?

Just had a quote from a Landrover Specialist with reference to having the Torque Converter replaced. Have used them before and have been happy. However, 10 hours labour to remove gearbox, replace TC, add new sump pan and filter, replace gearbox and refill. Does this sound about right?

I am not sure about the hours but 5 years ago I paid 2.900€ for the same repair on my D3.

We quote 8-10, as it allows for seized fixings etc, that are inevitable on an 18 year old car now Thumbs Up

I have access to Autodata through work, the time given on that is over 7 hours for the torque converter, but keep in mind that is a time when new, add in some slack for age related issues and 10 hours sounds like a pretty sensible quote to me.

Well I’ve bitten the bullet and booked her in for torque converter replacement, new transmission sump and filter and lovely new fluids. Plus a few extras. Not cheap but I want a proper job done as she’s a keeper. 👍

Can I ask what the symptoms are that has led you to change the torque converter?

Ok so we have a shudder from the transmission when under load, on incline and now on the level durning light acceleration from standstill. Rev needle fluctuates on overrun. I did the usual and added 2xDr Tranny and symptoms disappeared. However they reappeared after 3 months of daily driving and are now worse. Note when I bought the Disco 4 years ago I did, as a precaution, have a transmission flush, not really convinced as the filter and pan were not changed. My Discos on 176,000 and I’ve spent a lot of money on everything from new AMK compressor to all suspension renewed and all front and rear lower and upper arms. Plus oil pump, belts AC condenser and that’s just a fraction of it. My D3’s a keeper for me hence worth spending. And I am a Landrover addict since birth 😂
