| 3rd starter motor died, but huge thanks to LRA |
|
starter motors! I've had two already, now the third has died. Only got the car back from Yeovil this afternoon and 30 minutes later I'm on the phone to LRA with a dead starter. 40 minutes later and Peter turns up and gets to work.
Peter is a proper mechanic and has an aversion to tow-trucks, so he set about removing, dismantling, fixing and reinstalling the starter to keep me mobile for a few days until the dealer can get the car in.

Your not having the best of days are you. Is all the black a carbon build up or something else.
Which one is Pete, I have had them out twice (EPB) and the guy has always been really helpful.

That IS impressive.
Is Peter an LRA Tech, or a 3rd party recovery man?
Only ever get 3rd party reps here - great guy, LR driver too, but I can't see him undertaking a job like that! D3 number 3: 08 TDV6 SE Stormygrey /owlpacker

Black stuff is carbon and grease emulsified with water. Very heavily corroded all round. Peter is the Portsmouth-based LRA chap that covers Dorset when Barry (my local chap) has a well-deserved day off. You cannot begin to comprehend the immensity of the I do not give.

Last time the starter went on mine it was straight to the recovery agent as the LRA chap was about 3 jobs and 5 hours away.
Peter had three jobs come in while he was with me, two of which had to get handed off to agents as they were "will not start" jobs and therefore a priorty and one he agreed with the customer to deal with as first job of the day on Sunday. He was with me for about 2 hours, got thoroughly stuck in, had a great sense of humour and is a real credit to Land Rover. You cannot begin to comprehend the immensity of the I do not give.

Mine was prob one of those will not starts !!! Must say though the Boarhunt Chap was very helpful and was willing to try and take it all apart. Said don't bother, let the Stealer do it Monday on a ramp... Got a Nissan car thingy from Enterprise, was looking forward to a TDV8.....AAAAArse! A Silver G4... Best of both worlds...

Fortunately mine only seems to break down when I've got a car full of people and kit and I'm off to pick up an excavator on a trailer or when I've got a car full of tack and dogs and the horse needs to be moved back from livery to the paddock next to our place. Otherwise you get a normal car You cannot begin to comprehend the immensity of the I do not give.

Commute in it, go on holiday in it, go offroad for a day every 2 months or so
Since the last motor went I reduced the amount of fording I do to the point where I can go weeks between crossings, driving the long way around instead of using the ford and unclassifed road the other side that would save me about 4 miles each way on my present commute. LRA chap thought I'd just been unlucky, but having looked at the breathers on the motor casing I think the motor isn't quite as well protected as it could be. Fortunately they are both top blokes, so the pain of having to call on them is less than it could be. You cannot begin to comprehend the immensity of the I do not give.
