Hope this works for you John C as it didn't work for me. I spent about 2 hours trying to do this from the buttons on the fascia as per everyones suggestion (not in the manual), but it just didn't happen.
Fortunately, I got a reprieve when the boot release itself started to work again of its own accord. I promptly programmed the keyfob from the back of the car and it worked first time. Five minutes later, the boot release stopped working again but my kefob has been used ever since. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Mmmm - thought I'd replied to this yesterday - but clearly not.
Thanks all for the help.
JMC - had exactly the same thing. Tried for ages to get interior buttons to work, eventually resorted to trying the boot button and tried and tried and tried for ages, until it opened, and managed to programme the remote at the same time. Phew!
Now the external boot button's stopped working again, so this is a great stop-gap until it's sorted next week.
