In general I think most would agree that the D3 has very good brakes..maybe you need to get them checked ?
but if thats still doesn't satisfy then you could upgrade to V8 discs like this :
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic13164.html 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I think considering the size and weight of the D3, they are fantastic.
However, there is no point in comparing the stopping ability of the D3 against a light sports car, you need to drive accordingly.

My brakes work fine (granted I have a petrol V8 so mine might be bigger?) - the confidence factor will never be the same as in a small car because you get a lot more nose diving as a result of the 2.7 tons and longer suspension travel. However, the confidence factor is really only in your head - the D3 is stopping fine, you just "feel" like it's not. The D3 might feel wobbly, but its limits are actually much higher than you'd think.
Of course, you could always be having an issue with the brakes (I'd get them checked if you suspect this to be the case).

Not sure in your case, but it seems that most people complaining of poor brakes are braking to avoid the ABS "pumping".
Brake hard & see the result.

I agree,
Brakes should not be weak unless there is an issue. I have had a couple of high speed moments in the NT with Wildlife and if you experience the EBA cut in it is unbelievable. Press that pedal hard, if the EBA activates in the dry it is so well balanced that the ABS does not activate. It activates based on how hard and fast you hit the pedal so a full panic hit does not result in locking and ABS but a full force blood to the face computer controlled stop.

I had an issue with the pedal going hard on braking and having to really push to be able to stop. LR sorted after a few attempts at repair. Now no probs at all....not even a worry towing boat or horse box loaded! 2005 TDV6 HSE, Dual battery (TFC) with 1000w inverter,
Fitted finally, rear ladder and mantec plate - wow too easy
To be fitted : Thinking about ARB bumper

Now I'm curious! Will have to try to provoke EBA one of these days.
You could also try pulling the EPB at speed... I hear that's fun.

As well as the linked thread, LRO had an article about fitting larger RRS discs and calipers, its a drop on fit, and you can get the right sized guards that go behind the discs and everything - think one or two mods at rear were required. Might be worth looking at if you feel your need more, ,y personal experience is that they are more than up to the job, but its not a sports car, if you want to drive fast its not the best choice! Disco3 is now gone but not forgotten. Waiting for Disco6 with full aluminium construction weight reduction and hybrid engine...

Whilst we are on the subject of brakes, where is the best place to get some new front discs/pads & what is the ballpark cost? Thanks Richard

That may be true if you have 19in wheels. Otherwise, I doubt it.
