Advice please - How to attach guards to front of wheel arch |
|
I'm looking at finally getting around to fixing a water deflector to the front of each front wheel arch. It's a feature that's standard on many soft roaders like the CRV, and I've finally had enough of the water/stones being thrown onto the windscreen whilst driving the school run and I'm sure it's no picnic for any cars passing in the opposite direction at the time...
I'm thinking of either an aluminium plate or some stiff plastic or rubber projecting down about 3" below the front of the arch. I want it to be semi-permanent so I can remove them for green-laning. To do this I think I need to drill into the front of the lining.
Can I tap into this great forum's knowledge to help with this please?
Is there anything behind there that I can hurt by drilling?
Do I need some sort of insert to strengthen the fixing into the lining and if so where can I get them?
And if there's a better way that comes to mind, then any advice gratefully received.
Many thanks, Dr. Ian Malcolm:

Transgenic tomato anyone?

If you were to get some more of the plastic rivets that hold the wheelarch liner on, and carefully drilled the liner as required, these would probably be strong enough, and easy to remove.(ISTR there may be a couple of holes already there,in that area, and a screw with a clip nut already behind it, that could also be used.). I dont think there is much behind the drivers side liner at the front, but on the other side, the screen wash bottle may be fairly close to it.

Thanks DND3, nice one. I'll speak to TLO and see what's available. Dr. Ian Malcolm:
